The Muota River is a river in the Swiss canton of Schwyz, a tributary of Lake Lucerne. It is 29 km long [1].
Muota rises in the mucota best Alp Ruosalp, north of Glatten on the border of the cantons of Schwyz and Uri. It first flows north through Little He Bisistal, before turning west to the villages of Muotathal and Ried.[1]
Behind Ried, the river flows through a narrow valley between Gibelhorn and Stooshorn, passing under the Stusbahn funicular railway that serves the mountain town of Stoos. After leaving this gorge, the river turns north and reaches the village of Ibach in the city of Schwyz.
At Ibach, the river turns west again, then soon after crosses under the motorway A4 and the Gotthard railway line to reach Severen, the outflow of Lake Lauerz. Here it flows southwest into Lake Lucerne on the west side of the town of Brunnen in the municipality of Ingenbol.
